Our client, a Sacco Society with a membership from a large number of Christian Organizations wishes to recruit a General Manager.
Reporting to the Management Committee, the position is responsible for leading, directing, developing and managing the implementation of all aspects of the SACCO’s business and activities.

Based in Nairobi

Main Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the SACCO’S Management Committee, the incumbent is responsible for leading, directing, developing and managing the implementation of all aspects of the SACCO’s business and activities.
Major Responsibilities
  • Provide strong and strategic leadership to the SACCO: coordinate the development and ensure timely implementation of strategic and business plans; ensure effective management, development and maintenance of a high performance team; and effective and efficient administration of the SACCO’s operations.
  • Support decision making through timely presentation of comprehensive and reliable information and reports to the Management Committee.
  • Direct, manage, and develop staff, and maintain a robust and enabling work environment that attract and retain motivated, skilled, competent and committed people and promote teamwork.
  • Effective risk management and protection of the assets and other resources of the SACCO, ensure members and clients monies are safeguarded against loss through error, negligence and fraud, and maintain a sound internal control environment.
  • Ensure the SACCO keeps abreast with the market through innovative product development and aggressive marketing.
  • Ensure proper custody, management and control of assets and records thereof.
  • Maintain good corporate governance including compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and SACCO’s by-laws and internal policies.
  • Build and maintain strong and productive relationships with members, relevant government departments, stakeholders within the co-operative movement, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure prudent financial management including proper financial planning, forecasting and budgeting; budgetary monitoring and controls; proper management of costs; maintain accurate accounting records;
  • Effective control of loans, grants and any other lending and borrowing.
  • Effective management of assets and liabilities and prudent investment portfolio.
  • Quality timely reporting to key stakeholders such as Banks, SACCO Regulatory Authority, KUSCCO, shareholders, management, and relevant government departments.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Management from time to time.
Job Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following areas: Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or any equivalent.
  • Qualifications in SACCO operations obtained through areas of study such as Diploma in Cooperative Management, Business Management, or Microfinance.
  • Competencies in Marketing, Entrepreneurship or any other relevant field would be an added advantage
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience in SACCO/Financial Management position of which at least three years must have been with a reputed SACCO at senior management level.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are between 35 – 50 yrs old.

  • Should possess computer skills (Ms Word, Excel).
  • Strong leadership skills and decision making ability
  • Excellent analytical skills,
  • Self-drive and initiative
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A person of high integrity
  • Must be a committed and practicing Christian
