Operations Manager – Tanzania

Out client is a regional oil and gas business who are looking for an experienced operations manager in Tanzania to take control of the day-to-day running of their business.

  • Responsible for the overall performance and efficiency within agreed budgets and timescales
  • Experience of managing P&L, Sales, Operations, Quality, HSE
  • Manage all day-to-day operations including engineering and change (technical assessment and approval of modifications)
  • Collaborate with other senior managers in contributing to technology strategy and planning and achieving the commercial objectives of the Company
  • Provide input based on operations experience to commercial plant designs including attendance at design review meetings
  • Recruit, manage and develop direct reporting staff including, engineering, scientific and support personnel
  • Manage on-going recruitment, training and evaluation of operators in order to comply with the requirements of all management systems
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of operational management and development
  • Monitor, measure and report on operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales
  • Manage and control expenditure within agreed budgets
  • Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care
  • Manage customer service activities including order entry, customer satisfaction, interface with sales, production, labs, regulatory, and quality ensuring that customer service creates competitive advantage in marketplace including resolving critical customer complaints
  • Manage logistics strategies that meet all requirement and expectations of clients while maintaining added flexibility and predictability
  • Define logistics performance and improvement plan in conjunction with supply chain and the regional leadership team.
  • Track and manage logistics performance indicators related cost, quality and delivery of materials and services.
  • Understand internal customer needs and summarize business requirements as input into enterprise-wide logistics strategy
  • Manage and coordinate daily logistical requirements involving truck transport, airfreight and ocean freight transportation in the continuing supply chain cycle.
  • Create, manage and achieve the overall logistics and customer service department budgets
  • Ensure Logistics Department complies with ISO 9002 requirements.
  • Motivate, organize and encourage teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met.
  • Handle technical details relating to international transportation, such as customs regulations and any necessary documentation.
  • Efficiently evaluate the costs of transportation, services and inventory within any budget or distribution strategy.
  • Have knowledge of national and international import/export legislation and must be able to effectively troubleshoot any issues that may arise in international freight transportation.
  • Build relationships with Logistics mediators and work closely with package engineers to ensure the protection of freight in transportation.
  • Documentation and organisation is important – any changes to operating procedures, prioritisation or any problems must be documented and communicated accurately.
  • Provide communications regarding status updates, progress reports for special projects, specific project status reports, and general communication as needed.
  • Oversee communications with Vendors and Forwarders to arrange for proper handling, documentation, compliance with destination country regulations and manage all logistics transactions within the ERP including full utilization of the CI and Green Light process
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Master’s preferred
  • Minimum of 1-year experience working in Tanzania
  • 5-7 years of Operations and Maintenance Management Experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Must have experience dealing with LPG and LNG
  • Familiarity with a major ERP tool
  • Extensive Commercial acumen
  • Be competent in managing third party vendors
  • Good verbal and written communication at all levels.
