Training4Change and the Global Platform concept

Training4Change is ActionAid’s training unit and works from a global network connected by a number of regional platforms called Global Platforms (GPs). The GPs are training hubs located all over the world, where volunteers, activists and NGO employees can get training and participate in projects and activities.

The fundamental aim of the GPs is to empower young people to create positive social change through training, capacity support, mentoring, networking, cultural exchange and incubation of young people with innovative ideas. And through supporting ActionAid staff and partners to access new thinking and approaches to facilitating social change within their programmes.

Every year, approximately 4000 volunteers and professionals are trained at our Global Platforms in Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, El Salvador, Jordan, Ghana, Myanmar and more countries in the near future. As an employee in Training4Change, you will thus be part of a team of approximately 40 colleagues around the world.

Global Platform Mt. Kenya

Global Platform Mt. Kenya provides innovative trainings for young people – from the Global North, from East African countries and from the local area – who wish to take positive action in their societies. We are determined to provide youth with knowledge, skills and attitudes to be active global citizens with the ability to reduce social and economic inequality in the world!

At present time, three main courses are being conducted at the Global Platform. One is for Global Volunteers (aged 19-24), who are undertaking a one month course before volunteering in different parts of Africa.

A similar course with the duration of one week is held for Global Interns who are interning at different institutions in East Africa. Lastly, a four month Global Citizen Course for Danish and African youth is held twice a year.
In 2014 we are launching some new interesting courses including Global Health Study trips, as well as tool box courses in e.g. Human Rights Based Approach for ActionAid, local youth and activists.
Alongside these courses a range of activities targeting local youths are carried out such as Youth Forums, Coffee Bars, Training of Facilitators and cooperation with ActionAid’s youth network Activista Mt. Kenya.
Your closest colleagues will be 7 Kenyan and Danish trainers and a support staff, but also a wider range of colleagues from ActionAid Kenya.

About the job
 

Management: The Global Platform Manager will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in project management, organization, administration and human resource management. The Global Platform manager will be experienced with planning and team coordination; and have the desire and will to take a challenging and exciting job with a high degree of self-leadership and room for initiative. A great part of the time will be taken up managing the trainers, ensuring training quality, and supervising the implementation of other projects and events that are being implemented at the platform.

Financial Management: The Global Platform Manager will have documented experience in budget management. He/she will have personal responsibility to ensure the financial integrity of the platform including developing annual budgets for income and expenditure, monthly accounting of actual expenses and incomes, quarterly reporting for acquittal and funds disbursement, and reporting to ActionAid.

Strategic Management: The Global Platform Manager will also be responsible for building strategic relations with current and new partners, which requires experience with strategic management, networking and partnership development. This includes integrating the work of the Global Platform more with ActionAid Kenya’s programmatic work, but also having to identify new potential strategic partners in the region who wish to partner with our training programme. Part of this task will also involve establishing relations, which can lead to more income generating courses for the Platform.

Communication: The Global Platform Manager will be a diplomatic and skilled communicator having to negotiate partner agreements with ActionAid, manage day to day relations with strategic partners, ensure trainers are motivated, problems are resolved and that key relationships are maintained at an effective and professional level.

Training: The Global Platform Manager will also be prepared and ready to train when the need arises and therefore have experience in facilitation and will be familiar with participatory training approaches that aim to empower young people to become drivers of change.

Ideally, you are also familiar with ActionAid’s work and are committed to engage in fighting poverty and in justice.

Employment Conditions

Contract Period: 15.05.2014 to 15.05.2016
Monthly Salary: DKK 17.786,00
Pension: 10% of the salary
You will have to pay local tax of the salary.

Please note that this is a non-family position.
